The art I create is non objective. I use scrap wood and found objects in combinations to formulate and create visual and spatial assemblages. These assemblages are highly ordered structures based on simplicity of space and harmony – it is a statement in pure form. I primarily work on a small scale to produce works of art that are personal and intimate. My technique begins by randomly cutting pieces of scrap wood into various sizes and shapes. These pieces of wood and/or found objects can then be scored, painted or left in their natural state. The whole process is about constructing objects, adding to or subtracting from the art form.

Where did all of these pots come from? Their basic shape begs the question. Simply, they are a conscious manifestation of my life experiences growing up in Kansas. We’re talking about a relatively flat piece of America. Well, as a young boy, I was very impressed by objects that “broke” that horizon line— windmills, church steeples, farm silos and grain elevators. Family members used to say, “You need to get into art.” I didn’t realize, at the time, that “art” could be a profession. Flash forward. College study and a career path in graphic design and advertising would find me working at the top design studio in Denver in 1981, for a man named Ricardo DeOlivera. Fate would deliver me to his wonderful art gallery years later. Thank you to my family for their unending show of support for my pursuit of “art.”
